Privacy Policy

This policy explains what Mortgage Broker Canberra collects through this website, why it is collected, who it goes to, and what you can do about it. It is written to the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988.

Last updated: 3 August 2026

What This Policy Covers

It covers personal information collected through mortgagebrokercanberra.net.au and through the phone number and enquiry form published on it. Credit information is handled under a separate part of the Privacy Act, and the section on credit reporting below sets out how.

Contact details for privacy questions are the same ones published everywhere else on this site: (02) 6188 9663, Canberra, ACT 2601, ABN 35 361 229 668.

Information Collected Through This Site

Only what you provide, plus what any web server records automatically.

  • The enquiry form. Your name, phone number, email address, the type of enquiry you select, and whatever you write in the message field. Nothing on that form is required beyond name, phone and email.
  • Phone calls. What you tell us during the call. Calls are not recorded.
  • Server logs. The hosting provider records IP addresses, request times, requested URLs, and browser user-agent strings, as every web host does. These are used for security and availability, not to build a profile of you.

No account is created, no login exists, and there is no newsletter signup. If you never contact us, this site does not learn who you are.

Information collected later, if you proceed

If you decide to go ahead with an application, considerably more is needed: identification, income and employment evidence, bank statements, details of existing debts, and information about the property. That collection happens away from this website, through a separate privacy consent and credit guide provided to you at the time. It is described here only so you know what comes next.

How That Information Is Used

  • To respond to your enquiry and to arrange a call back.
  • To assess, in general terms, what lenders and loan structures might suit your circumstances.
  • To prepare, lodge and manage a credit application, if you ask for that to happen.
  • To meet obligations under the National Consumer Credit Protection Act 2009, anti-money-laundering law, and record-keeping requirements.

Your details are not sold, rented, or traded. They are not used for marketing unrelated to the enquiry you made.

Who It Is Disclosed To

Nothing is disclosed for an enquiry that goes no further than a conversation. Once you ask for an application to proceed, information is disclosed to the parties that have to see it:

  • Lenders you ask to be approached, and only those. Applications are not shotgunned across a panel.
  • The credit licensee or aggregator whose systems the application runs through, where we operate as a credit representative.
  • Lenders mortgage insurers, where the loan requires insurance.
  • Valuers, conveyancers and settlement agents involved in the specific transaction.
  • Credit reporting bodies, as described below.
  • Government agencies and regulators, where disclosure is required or authorised by law.

Storage outside Australia

Some technology providers store data on servers outside Australia. Where that applies to a provider used for your information, it is identified in the privacy consent you sign before an application is lodged, together with the countries involved.

Credit Information And Credit Reporting

Credit information gets stronger protection than ordinary personal information. Part IIIA of the Privacy Act 1988 and the Privacy (Credit Reporting) Code govern how it is collected, held, used and disclosed.

A credit enquiry is only made with your express consent. Nothing on this website triggers one. Submitting the enquiry form does not create a mark on your credit file, and neither does a phone conversation about what you might be able to borrow.

You can ask a credit reporting body for a copy of your own credit report, free of charge, once every three months. If something in it is wrong, you can ask for it to be corrected, and the body must respond within the timeframes the Code sets.

Cookies, Analytics And The Map Embed

This site sets no cookies of its own and runs no advertising or tracking scripts. There is no remarketing pixel on any page.

Two exceptions are worth naming. The location map on the home page, service pages, about page and contact page is an embedded Google Maps frame; loading it sends your IP address to Google and Google may set its own cookies, under Google's privacy policy rather than this one. The frame is lazy-loaded, so it does not load at all unless you scroll to it. Second, where a form provider is used to deliver enquiry submissions, that provider processes the submission on its own infrastructure under its own privacy terms.

Security, Storage And How Long It Is Kept

Information is held in access-controlled systems and transmitted over HTTPS. No system is perfectly secure, and no honest policy claims otherwise.

Enquiries that go nowhere are destroyed or de-identified once they are no longer needed. Where a credit application is prepared, records must be kept for seven years after the credit assistance is provided, under the National Consumer Credit Protection Act 2009. That obligation overrides a request to delete them within that period.

Access, Correction And Complaints

You can ask for a copy of the personal information held about you, and you can ask for it to be corrected if it is wrong. Ask by phone on (02) 6188 9663 or through the enquiry form. Identity is verified before anything is released. Access is free in the ordinary case; if a request is unusually large, any charge is quoted before the work is done and covers cost only.

A request can be refused only on the grounds the Privacy Act allows, and if it is refused you are told why in writing.

If you want to complain

  1. Raise it directly on (02) 6188 9663. Most complaints are resolved at this point, and a written response follows within 30 days.
  2. If that does not resolve it, the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner accepts privacy complaints and investigates them independently.
  3. Where the complaint concerns credit assistance rather than privacy alone, the Australian Financial Complaints Authority provides free external dispute resolution.

Changes To This Policy
